The Baal Shem Tones
The Baal Shem Tones (Helene and Michael Kates) have been called “one of the best live bands in American Jewish music.” With their deliciously crafted songs and a huge repertoire of popular music going back to the 1920s, they delight and educate audiences of all stripes and ages wherever they go. Their third CD, 8 Songs for Children, was released in 2015.
“These songs will charm and engage young children while teaching them about Jewish concepts. They intertwine Hebrew with English words in a way that children will learn them seamlessly. I love the ‘Hashkiveinu’ lullaby for just that reason. I found myself singing ‘Who Built the Teva’ in my head because it is so catchy. I use ‘Oh Shabbos Come In’ with elders as well as with children.” – Rabbi Cherie Koller-Fox, President, NewCAJE
“8 Songs for Children offers a variety of rhythms from Latin to lullaby. The child-in-me danced and clapped and moved to the music… I wanted to hear these songs again and again. It’s a terrific CD for everyone of every age.” – Peninnah Schram, author and Professor of Speech and Drama at Stern College
