Who built the Teva? Noach, Noach!
Who built the Teva? Noach did! (2x)

The animals came on two by two,
Two by two, two by two.
The animals came on two by two,
If I’d been there I’d go along, too. Well…

(chorus)

The kosher animals came seven by seven,
Seven by seven, seven by seven.
The kosher animals came seven by seven,
Before the rain came down from Heaven. Oh…

(chorus)

It rained and rained for forty days and nights,
Forty days and nights, forty days and nights.
It rained and rained for forty days and nights,
Nothing but water, everywhere in sight. Oh…

(chorus)

The ark kept everyone warm and dry,
Warm and dry, warm and dry.
The ark kept everyone warm and dry,
’til the rain stopped falling from the sky. Now…

(chorus)

The dove was sent to find dry land,
Find dry land, find dry land.
The dove was sent to find dry land.
And she came back with an olive branch. Whoa…

(chorus)

That’s the end of our story, the end for now,
The end for now, the end for now.
That’s the end of our story, the end for now,
We can all thank Noach for the lions and the cows,
And the dogs that go bow-wow,
And the cats that say meow,
And for all of us here now!

Who built the Teva? Noach did!

This began as a variation of an Appalachian folk song, “Brother Noah Built the Ark.” Morah Sara Carter of the Chaya Mushka Preschool in Atlanta, GA, added verses with Jewish content and changed the English words “Noah” and “ark” to the Hebrew “Noach” and “teva.”
We added more verses and set it to a New Orleans second-line rhythm.
